I'm A Senior! And Drawing Troubles

Fri Jun 6, 2008, 12:07 PM

FINALLY. Took a while.

But it's not over yet, tomorrow I'm taking the SAT. Oh well, at least I'm getting it done early.

Art-wise, I'm a little stressed. My art has not been serious for the past month or so(with the exception of some animation and life drawings here and there). I'm nervous, because I have half a year to put together a decent portfolio to send to CalArts. I just looked at a couple of artists who go there here on DA, and I don't feel like I'm even close to being that good. I'm scared of running out of time.

But CSSSA will help hugely, I just need to really hit life drawing this summer. If not, I may not be good enough to get in.

So, on a lighter note, I'm out of town starting Sunday for a week. I plan on bringing my sketchbook to that, of course, and draw my heart out. Observe everything from perspective to shadows to colors.

I pray to God I improve this summer.

Prayer is the best thing. Always helps. Just don't be scared, it doesn't do you any good. More often that not, being scared locks you up! :P

woa....... that means i'm older than you o_o
:giggle: i didn't have to take the SAT- my college didn't require it =3 but i gets to skip a couple classes freshman year because i took equivalent ones in my senior year (i love AP classes).
Senior year is probably your worst year because you're rushed to get a bazillion things done before graduation....... believe me it goes by fast. I'm still stuck back on the first day of school in September o_o'

Then you have the crying thing at the end because you know you're not going to see 80% of the people you grew up with ever again and then you have all the parties to go to and shit and it's just awesome. It's awesome, but its sad, and fun, and confusing.

Once you finish the year out you stand there "well....... what now o_o" because you're so used to doing the same thing over and over and over, then POOF- no more. You're totally free to do whatever you want to do.

FAFSA and any college stuff GET IT DONE ASAP.

To submit like registration and stuff for colleges DO IT BEFORE OCTOBER 1ST. Trust me it works a lot better when you do it right away. I did that and got all three of my acceptance letters 2 weeks after I did the forms.
Also, if you can, do them online!

FAFSA/other student aid stuff- START MAKING A GIGANTIC FOLDER! Get alllll the info you need beforehand, fill out a worksheet, then submit it online (goes real fast if you do it all on paper then copy it down).

Do not ever skip classes, not do homework, sleep in class, or fail a class. Why? College gets to see that later on... it doesn't look purdy when they see that on the transcript >_>

Also before college starts you may want a summer job if you don't already have one... the extra cash in your pocket you're going to absolutely love when come moving time!

I'm done with high school. If I could would I go back and do it over again? Hell yes. I'd correct the many mistakes I did.

P.S. try to have at least one study hall period in your school day. As a senior, it comes in handy for doing work, studies, ect.

one more thing........ college exams = harder than high school's

So if you study hard for high school exams, it's a good habit to keep. Some people i know just walk in there take the exam and say 'oh well' >_> not really the best thing you want to do.

Good luck lil buddy!

I know that feeling. I felt a lot that I'm not good enough when I was preparing for the university. I guess everybody does when it come to visual arts - there's no established criteria on judging. Right proportions and anatomy, yes. But nobody can make it perfect (otherwise why would you need education in the first place), so basically it's judging who is less wrong :P

Just work hard and try not to worry. You're talented and hard-working, it just takes some time.

I'm sure you can make it. :)
:iconluckywolf:
Thank you so much for all of the advice, I've looked into getting the registrations forms for college. I'll make sure to try to keep a folder for it all. Thank you again!
