Artist's Comments

After doing some life drawings of horses on Sunday, felt compelled to try drawing, err, horses :XD:. And they came out really nice, hence me posting them.

I can easily see why life drawing is so important- without doing realistic sketches of real horses before this, I wouldn't have nearly caught the expressions as well. Sooooo, advice to other artists: life draw.

Wow O.O I can't draw horses. But you really can.

so true. you can't truly capture a good cariacture(sp?) of something until you know how it works in real life(like anatomy, build, mannerisms ect). it bugs so much to hear people who don't believe they need to do life drawing to do cartoons/animation(i hear it a lot in my major, " well we're going to be doing it all on computers, why do we need to know how to draw?"). i'm a firm believer that your artistic skill and drawing abilities are your foundation, especially in animation, if you don't have a very strong foundation, most likely, you won't succeed when you actually enter the real world of working in the animation business.

anyways, awesome skteches. you captured the muscular structures of a horse very well just in your shading. just wondering, are these the life drawings you did or just some sketches you drew after doing some life drawing?
